Resources for Students
At the Builder Coalition, we convene and collaborate with professionals of color, private firms, government agencies, trade organizations, and community nonprofits to create more significant educational opportunities, employment, partnership, and financing opportunities.
The following resources are intended to create a platform for sharing information related to opportunities for students of color to enter Boston’s commercial real estate industry. This working document is a collaboration between the various real estate trade organizations across Greater Boston and the UMass system.
Scholarships

The scholarship is awarded to a female student(s) entering her junior or senior year of undergraduate school or entering or enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university based in New England. The student must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the commercial real estate industry through her course studies and/or internships in a commercial real estate firm.

CORE is an eight module online credentialing course and will include live and self-guided real estate career content coupled with building skills necessary to succeed. You will spend approximately 3 hours per module. Real Estate. a career of choice, not chance.
There is no out-of-pocket cost to you as accepted applicants will earn a full scholarship (value $2,500) to complete the course.
Students achieving this credential will be prepared for entry level jobs in the real estate industry primarily as a leasing consultant, marketing representative, property administrator. Students will leave with an overview of the industry that will position them for future studies or entry level positions. We encourage additional exploration through experiential learning such as job shadowing, internships, part time or full time employment.

Real estate trade organizations are the primary sources of real estate education, and also the central networks of developers and real estate professionals that do high-level business together. Through our partnerships with the major real estate organizations in Greater Boston, we have arranged for our network to be able to access first-time membership on a discounted or complimentary basis, for a limited time.

Internships/Fellowships

Coffee Connectors is an initiative that helps ambitious first-generation college students and commercial real estate first-timers (Connectees) to overcome gaps in their career networks. Connectees learn the protocols and unwritten rules of building a network, including how to present their professional profiles, write an email introduction, and prepare themselves for a live meeting with a real estate industry veteran (Connector). Connectors agree to meet with Connectees for one thirty-minute coffee, make one referral to another professional, and continue to mentor the Connectee through their first job search and career launch.

The Online Intensive Program (OIP) is a self-directed, asynchronous program open to college sophomores and first-years.
OIP allows independent learners the opportunity to develop skills in finance and investing fundamentals at their own pace from renowned training organizations. The program is designed for completion from February through August while undertaking an independent internship, summer job, or other full-time endeavor.
